Acoustic metamaterials are artificially generated materials designed to control, direct, and manipulate sound waves. The theory behind them follows research in negative index material. At a super scaled level, metamaterials can act as a threshold between two different experiences and be used in a way to dampen sound. The space that you weave through to get from one area to the next, is carved out by the necessary negative space needed to manipulate sound waves.
